AMSTERDAM, NY – The Leader Herald reports that a collision with a tractor-trailer left one man dead on Tuesday afternoon in Amsterdam.

Authorities say the crash took place just before 4:30 p.m. on Route 5 near Quist Road. The man killed in the incident, 54-year-old James E. Green of Gloversville, was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt west on Route 5. Green’s vehicle left the westbound lanes, crossed the center median, and continued to drive west into oncoming traffic in the eastbound lane, causing a head-on collision with a tractor-trailer.

Green died after being taken to St. Mary’s Hospital for treatment. The driver of the tractor-trailer was unharmed.

Police continue to investigate the crash.
