Narrative
QUEENS, NEW YORK, NY – A crash in Richmond Hill early Thursday resulted in the death of a worker employed by the city’s Department of Environmental Protection (DEP).
According to police a black Mercedes collided with a DEP truck at the intersection of Atlantic Avenue and Lefferts Boulevard in Richmond Hill.
The impact of the crash caused the DEP truck to overturn, leading to the ejection and subsequent entrapment of a DEP worker beneath the vehicle. The victim, an unidentified 38-year-old, was rushed to a nearby hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
The second occupant of the truck suffered minor injuries.
The driver of the Mercedes, identified as 24-year-old Errick Persaud from Queens, was apprehended by authorities on DWI charges.
