NEW YORK, NY – An 88-year-old woman died late Friday morning after an Access-A-Ride van struck her as she crossed a busy Manhattan intersection.
The incident happened just before 11 a.m. at the intersection of Canal Street and Allen Street, which is between Essex and Forsyth Streets in the Chinatown area.
The investigation indicates that the driver of the Access-A-Ride van failed to yield the right of way to the pedestrian and struck her in the intersection while making a right turn.
The pedestrian, identified as Ngan Yung, died after transport to a local hospital.
The driver of the van faces charges of negligence and failure to yield. The investigation is ongoing.
