Narrative
NEW YORK, NY – A drunk driver went to the hospital with critical injuries on Sunday morning after crashing his vehicle into a roadside culvert.
The incident occurred just after 3 a.m. near the intersection of South Kankakee Street and West Baker Road, which is just east of Hanover Estates Park.
Police say that the unrestrained driver failed to decelerate when appropriate, left the roadway, and struck a culvert.
Medics airlifted the man, identified as Pedro Chavez, to a local hospital for treatment.
Chavez faces multiple charges, including DUI, failure to reduce speed, and failure to maintain liability insurance on his vehicle.
The investigation is ongoing.
