Narrative
THE BRONX, NY – A burglary suspect in his 20s died on Thursday after fleeing police on his scooter and colliding with a box truck at a busy Bronx intersection.
The incident occurred just before 11:45 a.m. at the intersection of East 214th Street and Laconia Avenue, which is west of US-1 and east of Bronxwood Avenue.
Police say they attempted to stop the man on his scooter as part of a larger robbery investigation when the man crashed into a box truck in the intersection. He was not wearing a helmet and died after transport to a local hospital. Authorities have not yet identified the victim.
The driver of the box truck remained at the scene to render aid and speak with police.
