Narrative
ESSEX CO., NY – A 47-year-old female passenger died on Monday after a head-on crash along the Adirondack Expressway north of Lewis.
The incident happened in the evening on the southbound side of I-87 between Exits 32 and 33, which is south of Poke-O Moonshine Observer’s Trail Trailhead and northwest of Reber.
The investigation indicates that a northbound vehicle entered the southbound lane of the Adirondack Expressway and collided head on with a southbound Dodge Ram truck.
Medics airlifted two juvenile passengers from the Dodge to a local hospital for treatment of internal injuries. They also transported the driver of the Dodge, identified as Dale Groshans, to a local hospital.
The front-seat passenger, identified as Kathy Groshans, died at the scene of the accident.
The driver of the wrong-way vehicle sustained critical injuries to the head and internal organs.
