Narrative
NEW CASTLE, NY – ABC7 New York reports that several people were injured in a head-on collision with a school bus, caused by an unlicensed driver in New Castle on Wednesday.
The crash was reported shortly after 2:00 p.m. near the intersection of Lake Road and Crow Hill Road. Authorities say a 16-year-old unlicensed driver was behind the wheel, transporting three passengers in a Honda Accord in the southbound lanes of Lake Road when the driver lost control while navigating a curve in the road. The driver swerved over into oncoming traffic in the northbound lanes and crashed into a Yorktown School District bus head-on.
All four occupants of the Honda sustained serious injuries in the collision and were transported to Westchester Medical Center for treatment. Three of the four teenagers currently remain in critical condition with several life-threatening injuries.
Two teenage students and a 69-year-old bus monitor on the school bus sustained minor injuries in the accident and were released after receiving treatment. The school bus driver and a 48-year-old bus monitor were also injured and remain in treatment for minor injuries.
