STATEN ISLAND, NY – Two women in their 20s died on Sunday night in Staten Island after their car crashed into a guardrail along the freeway.

The incident happened around 11 p.m. near Exit 14 on the Staten Island Expressway, which is just northwest of Grasmere Lake and Brady’s Pond Park.

Police say that the driver lost control of her Chevy Corvette and hit a guardrail, at which point the car ignited. Both the driver and her passenger died at the scene of the accident.

A full investigation is underway.
