Narrative

ST. JAMES, NY – Two adults and three children sustained injuries Tuesday in a two-vehicle crash at a busy St. James intersection.

The incident occurred around 6 p.m. at Middle Country Road and Lake Avenue, which is on the south side of the city near the Lexus and Kia dealerships.

Police say that a westbound 2004 Honda Accord collided with a 2024 Chevrolet Sonic when the driver of the latter vehicle attempted to make a left turn from eastbound Middle Country Road onto Lake Avenue.

Medics transported both drivers and three children from the Honda to an area hospital. The driver of the Chevy, identified as 68-year-old Marek Dekornic, sustained serious injuries. The four occupants of the Honda sustained minor injuries.
